One space for 38 blue badge holders – new report

There is only one council-owned accessible parking bay for every 38 blue badge holders, according to data released to car insurance company confused.com under a Freedom of Information request.
Since the rules changed to allow more people with hidden disabilities to apply, 35,000 more applications for blue badges have been received but only 1,800 new dedicated parking spaces have been created in the past year to accommodate them.
DWP offers ‘deal or no deal’ benefits

The DWP is pressuring vulnerable and disabled people into accepting unrecorded telephone benefits ‘deals’, the Guardian reports.
People who are waiting on the outcome of appeals, which could see them receive thousands of pounds more a year, are being offered lesser sums if they can decide to accept a lesser offer, in some cases, within minutes.
Frances Ryan reports that major charities including Scope have been told of individuals who have had such calls and been told that offers will be withdrawn if they do not make a snap decision.
