In a new move to entice disabled people to use public transport, The Department for Transport marked Purple Tuesday earlier this week by launching the first-of-its-kind Accessible Technology Research and Innovation Grant (A-TRIG), which will invest up to £500,000 in projects that can improve access to services or inspire more confidence to travel.

DR UK Ambassador and Disability transport advisor Stephen Brookes said: “In making these grants available, it is essential that they don’t just fund the ‘same old, same old’ projects which are already at the core of the government’s Inclusive Transport Strategy.”

The Department is also publishing its two-year update on the Inclusive Transport Strategy, highlighting the work delivered – including expanding Blue Badges to non-visible disabilities, launching the It’s Everyone’s Journey public awareness campaign, and funding 59 Changing Places toilets in motorway services, seven of which have now opened, with more scheduled to open next year.
