New countryside guidance calls for more access

New Countryside Code guidance has been released for farmers and land managers. The guidance says that they must ensure their land can be easily reached by 'visitors with different abilities and needs' – effectively, asking them to replace stiles and kissing gates with accessible access points, and to use more accessible signage.

Dartmoor National Park Authority (DNPA) has launched a consultation on new bylaws that would reduce wild camping areas and fine trespassers £500.
Dartmoor campaigner John Bainbridge told The Guardian: “Our national parks were created for the benefit of the public after the Kinder Scout mass trespass in the 1930s. They were not intended to be ruled over by control-freak park authorities,” he said. “At a time when more and more people are seeking to explore the outdoors, Dartmoor’s Park authorities are actually making it more difficult.”

More support for young carers in Scotland

A new Young Carer Grant, worth £300 a year, will be part of a new package of support for young carers, announced First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

Childrens' residence tests breach their rights, says Human Rights Committee
In their new Report the Joint Committee on Human Rights concludes that the impact of a new proposed legal aid residence test on children will lead to breaches by the United Kingdom of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) because it will in practice prevent children from being effectively represented in legal proceedings which affect them.
DWP enters legal agreement with EHRC to improve services for deaf claimants

The DWP has entered a legally binding agreement with the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) to improve support for deaf claimants accessing its services by telephone.
In the agreement, the DWP has committed to an action plan to address the problems these complaints identified.
The action plan commits DWP to:
Provide a Video Relay Service (VRS) across telephony services for all benefits and services. VRS enables deaf users to contact DWP via video relay using an interpreter;
