The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Disability. Strengthening the links between parliament and the disability sector
About the APPG
The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Disability is a cross-party group of members of parliament from both the commons and the lords. Focusing on the issues that affect all disabled people regardless of their disability, impairment, or health condition. Founded in 1969 it has since become one of the largest and most active All Party Groups.
The APPG for Disability calls on the experience and expertise of the disabled community to take leadership and control in developing policy: across society, organisations, and exercising choice in every aspect of our own lives.
The APPG for Disability provides a valuable opportunity for parliamentarians to engage with individuals and organisations outside parliament who share an interest in disability related issues.
At times when Parliament is dissolved (pending a General Election), APPGs do not technically exist. Following General Elections, they are re-established and inaugural meetings of the 'new' APPG are held during the new Parliamentary term. As such, DRUK ceases to conduct all APPG work during times of Parliamentary dissolution.
Disability Rights UK provides the Secretariat to the All Party Parliamentary Group for Disability
We are disabled people leading change. Over 90% of our board members and many of our colleagues identify as disabled people. We work with over 1000 members (both organisations around the UK and individuals), policy makers, journalists, businesses, and government - to include disabled people at the forefront of policy development and decision-making.
When disabled people participate everyone benefits.
Disability Rights UK works to create a society where everyone with lived experience of disability, health condition, or impairment, can participate fully as equal citizens. We view participation in all areas of society and life as a fundamental right.
The role of Secretariat is provided by Fazilet Hadi, Head of of Policy - email appgsecretariat@disabilityrightsuk.org

Meetings
The next All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Disability will be held jointly with the APPG on Fire Safety from 2-3pm on Monday 12 July.
The meeting will highlight the importance of the Government’s consultation on Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans for Disabled residents unable to self-evacuate from buildings.
The meeting will cover the government’s key proposals and have input from Disabled residents, as to how the proposals need to be strengthened. The consultation closes on 19 July and it is vital that the views of Disabled People are heard (see next story below).
To attend the meeting, email kirosinghr@parliament.uk with ‘RSVP’ in the subject line.
