Temporary Accommodation Project
We are working with young Disabled people in East and North-East London (Barking & Dagenham, City of London, Hackney, Havering, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, and Waltham Forest), to generate new knowledge and increase understanding of what can be done to improve safety and quality of temporary accommodation and ultimately prevent Disabled people from ending up in it.

Disability Rights UK, in collaboration with Toynbee Hall, and funded by the Trust for London are conducting a multi-year participatory action research (PAR) project to explore the issue of temporary accommodation for young disabled people and co-design solutions. A large proportion of people in temporary accommodation in London are disabled, and we know that poor quality temporary accommodation is dangerous and destablising for disabled people. We want to change this.
In our PAR approach staff will work with paid peer researchers as equal partners to study this topic. Peer researchers will work to decide our project focus, carry out research, and analyse the results. They will also help us to campaign for change in the system, speaking to councils, MPs, media and others to share our message.
If this sounds interesting to you, our application form is below - no previous research experience is required!
We are looking for disabled people between 18-25 years old who have lived in Temporary Accommodation within the past three years. You should also have been placed into Temporary Accommodation by one of the following councils:
