A delegation of disabled people and allies from around the country met Anne McGuire, Shadow Minister for Disabled People

Both the Minister, Esther McVey and Shadow Minister cancelled attending a major national disability conference in the Summer.

Delegation members told Anne the reality of life for disabled people, called for an end to 15 minute social care visits (unless an individual happens to want this) and pressed for a big expansion in peer support, as a far better use of resources than now. Delegation members talked about our own experience – from successful peer support amongst people with learning disabilities at Change in Leeds, to the impact of cuts that are jeopardising our independence, education and ‘having a life’.

The delegation had 5 demands, which they will also discuss with the Minister later in September.
