£299 cost of living payment to be issued between 6 and 22 February 2024

The DWP has said that the third cost of living payment of £299 for 2023/2024 will be sent automatically and directly to qualifying claimants between 6 February and 22 February 2024, or, for those in receipt of tax credits only, between 16 February and 22 February 2024.

This is the third of three payments over the financial year, totalling up to £900. The full list of benefit claimants that qualify for the upcoming Cost of Living Payment are those who receive:

  • Universal Credit
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Pension Credit

To be eligible for the payment, customers need to have been entitled to a payment for one of these benefits between 13 November and 12 December (“the qualifying period”), or a payment for an assessment period ending between these dates, or later found to be entitled to a payment.Eligible claimants will receive the payments automatically. They do not need to contact DWP or do anything to receive the payment.However, if a someone becomes retrospectively entitled to a Cost of Living payment or believe they are entitled but do not receive one, they can report this on GOV.UK from the 23 February. The Cost of Living Payments, spread across 2023/24, are worth up to £900 for those on means-tested benefits. This is made up of:

  • £301 – Paid between April - May 2023
  • £300 – Paid between October - November 2023
  • £299 – To be paid in February 2024
