Coronavirus strategy hinders stroke recovery

Thousands of stroke patients have suffered avoidable disability because of interruptions to NHS care during the Coronavirus pandemic, reports The Guardian. 

Clot-busting drugs and surgery to remove blood clots from the brain were harder to obtain during lockdown. Both interventions need to happen quickly to minimise the impacts of a stroke.

Rehabilitation services also stopped working normally as the NHS shifted focus to Coronavirus, hindering people from making their best recovery.

DR UK Head of Policy Fazilet Hadi said: “This is yet more evidence of how people with health conditions and disability have borne the brunt of the pandemic.”
