Department for Transport Publish Report on Disabled People's Rail Experiences

11 July 2019

The Department for Transport (DfT) have released a report on research into the experiences of disabled rail passengers.

The report was commissioned in 2017 with the aim of creating a better understanding of the barriers faced by disabled people when travelling by train.

Disability Rights UK Ambassador, and Sector Champion for Rail, Stephen Brookes, said "This important and overdue news reinforces my view that pan disability groups must be involved with train operators and key railway stakeholder companies at the early stage of all new and refurbish/rebuild projects. Too often we have seen rail companies having to spend large sums of money in putting things right after the event and that is just not acceptable. Corporate ignorance is as bad as basic discrimination and we now must grasp the chance to get things better for all disabled passengers by caring and listening."

The report can be accessed here.
