News Being Active

On Wednesday 23 May Leo Capella, Communications Officer for Get Yourself Active went to the Sporting Sense Summit at the Lee Valley Velodrome. After it he wrote this report on the event, which included trying out a hand cycle.  So do read it and share it with anyone who might be interested.

Leo Capella, Communications Officer for Get Yourself Active riding a handcycle as part of an Inclusive Cycling session at the Sporting Sense Summit and having a lot of fun doing so.

And as it’s Volunteers Week from now until 7 June, we at Get Yourself Active would like to say thank you to our volunteer who comes in every week, Iyiola.

Our valued volunteer Iyiola in January this year

In a new blog Iyiola shares his experience so far volunteering at GYA.

“Volunteering for me is about making connections, updating and acquiring new skills and getting up and physically travelling out to make a difference”

In my last blog about volunteering, I mentioned I started a part time role that keeps me busy 2 and a half days a week but I continued volunteering because I just don’t want to sit around doing nothing for the rest of the week.

On a wider note we’re currently looking for disabled people who volunteer on anything disability sport (or physical activity) related who would like to write a blog post for us about their experiences doing so? If this is you then e-mail Leo Capella at leo.capella@disabilityrightsuk.org. For more information about our guidelines when it comes to blog posts then please go here.
