More progress for I Can Make It from Leeds City Council and in our partnership with Hertfordshire County Council.

Leeds City Council have circulated our model contract clauses for local authorities and will include them in contracts, where it is appropriate for them to do so. These clauses were written by a leading equality barrister called Cathy Casserley and can be modified, with our agreement, by any local authority or organisation that works in partnership with I Can Make It.

We’d like to thank Leeds City Council for taking this innovative step as well as including us as one of their referral partners. And we’re looking forward to being informed when the clauses are used to create job opportunities for young people with disabilities and health conditions. We’d also like to thank Mick Ward, Interim Deputy Director, Integrated Commissioning Adults and Health at Leeds City Council & NHS Leeds Clinical Commissioning Groups for his time and energy supporting the campaign and helping keep us informed of our campaign’s progress within the council.

A satisfied event host and a satisfied partnership. Eddie Gibson Senior Manager EELGA with Bethany Young, Champion for I Can Make It in Hertfordshire, Anna Denham Research and Engagement Officer and Matthew Jones

Our Champion for I Can Make It in Hertfordshire’ Bethany Young’ and Our Research and Engagement Officer Anna Denham also had a really positive time at the East of England Procurement and Commissioning Masterclass last week (12th October).

Together with Matthew Jones, Procurement Manager for HCC they made a presentation on our partnership with Hertfordshire County Council, that was so well received it got two rounds of applause.  We also made new contacts, as well as cementing existing ones. A copy of Anna and Bethany’s presentation can be found, together with others from the Master Class, by going here.

So, a significant amount of progress for I Can Make It and we’ll be making more progress soon with meetings including Salford Children and Young People's Trust, the Infrastructure Projects Authority and Transport for London.

Leo Capella, Campaign Project Co-ordinator for I Can Make It, will be attending the inaugural National Social Value Conference on Tuesday 14th November as a guest of the Social Value Portal. We’d like to thank Guy Battle, Chief Executive of the Social Value Portal for his generosity in extending this invitation to us and are looking forward to taking part in what should be an interesting and important event.
