NHS funding restrictions could force thousands into residential care

The restrictions mean that a health service, in England, may not pay for home visits if it is cheaper to move patients into a residential care home.

DR UK Deputy CEO, Sue Bott, commented:

“Over the last 12 months we have become increasingly alarmed at the growing number of clinical commissioning groups (CCGs)  who are adopting policies that threaten to place disabled people in residential care against their wishes if their support costs are considered ‘too high’. 

CCGs need to be aware that such policies are contrary to human rights legislation and Article 19 of the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.  We urge any disabled person or their family facing such a situation to get in touch with us so that we can offer advice and support.”
