A positive start to 2017 for I Can Make It.

I Can Make It started this year with more contacts with councils established and more meetings for our champions to attend.

We have forthcoming meetings in the diary with representatives from the following organisations: Surrey County and East Sussex County Councils; South Norfolk Council; Bristol City Council; South Glos & North Somerset Councils and Darlington Borough Council.

On Wednesday the 11th Charlotte White our first (and hopefully not the last) champion for Bristol came to our offices to be formally welcomed into I Can Make It and to be briefed on an event that she will be attending in Bristol with us at the end of the month. We were very impressed by her friendly yet forensic approach in our discussions and look forward to working with her.

We’ve also recruited our first champion for Liverpool in the form of Hannah Ross who joined the campaign this week.  We also look forward to working with her in and around Liverpool to create new opportunities for people with disabilities.

We’re impressed with the champions that we have recruited so far and are excited about what this coming year has to offer when it comes to opening up opportunities for young people with disabilities. However, we’d like to recruit more Champions. This is particularly in Bristol to join Charlotte where we’re working closely with Bristol City Council to create new job opportunities. And in Nottingham, where we currently have no champions.

So if you are 18-29, have a disability or health condition live in and around either of those cities or any of our other target ones and want to join Charlotte and Hannah in helping to improve the career prospects of yourself and other young disabled people, then please get in touch with us on 0207 250 8193 or via leo.capella@disabilityrightsuk.org

Finally, we’ve commenced planning an I Can Make It event to be held in March 2017, so please watch this space for further updates!
