The first part of last week (beginning 14th of November) was a tale of two cities for I Can Make It.

Leo Capella and Katy Evans of I Can Make It, with our host, Stacey Lewis of CAN DO

On Monday, Leo and our two champions for Birmingham, Katy Evans and Rahul Tooray, met with the Birmingham/Wolverhampton Branch of Leonard Cheshire’s CAN DO project, at The Way Youth Centre in Wolverhampton to spread the word about I Can Make It.

On Tuesday, Philip Connolly and Anna Denham (working with us on procurement issues), joined two of our champions for Manchester, Kathryn Woodhead and Andrew Tarpey, at a meeting with representatives from Salford City Council. As a result, two of our champions have been invited to a further meeting today with the Salford Social Value Alliance.  On top of this, yesterday Kathryn, Andrew and Will Case held a meeting to brainstorm their approach to creating new jobs in Manchester. The meeting was hosted by Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People, whom we thank for the use of their room and hospitality.

So, a very positive week for our Champions!

And that’s not all. We’ve also recruited two new volunteer champions - one in Leicester, the other in Bristol – with whom we very much look forward to working.

However we’re still looking for more volunteers to join us, particularly in Nottingham and Liverpool, as these cities are currently missing out on the chance to create new opportunities for young people with disabilities. So if you are 18-29, have a disability or health condition and want to join us in helping to improve the career prospects of yourself and other young disabled people, then please get in touch with us on 0207 250 8193 or via leo.capella@disabilityrightsuk.org
