Care and Support Minister Alistair Burt announces that the implementation of the cap on care costs will be delayed until April 2020

We are alarmed about the government announcement today of delaying proposed changes to paying for social care.  As well as this representing an about face on a manifesto commitment this sends a signal that the Government is not really getting to grips with the crisis in funding social care.

The answer to the social care funding crisis is not to require people to contribute more and more of their own resources.

We fear that for younger disabled people this announcement will mean that they are asked to contribute more to their own support costs including from benefits.

Disabled people are already amongst the poorest in society – this will only make that situation worse and undermine our life chances.
