The NHS prescription charge has long been a contentious issue

This charge has been abolished in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, leaving patients in England alone in the UK in having to pay for their prescriptions.  Although there are many exemptions from the prescription charge, these appear illogical and unfair. DTB believes that the prescription charge is a poorly conceived, manifestly unfair tax and is in need of reform.

A survey commissioned by  Drug & Therapeutics Bulletin (DTB) found that two thirds of primary care health professionals think that the current exemption criteria for prescription charges in England should be widened to include anyone with a long term condition.
