Disability Rights UK Factsheet F69

The Independent Living Fund (ILF) was a Government funded discretionary scheme, which has been closed since 1 July 2015. This factsheet briefly outlines the support which replaces it for those who previously received help from the ILF.

If you live in England

Your local authority is now responsible for your care provision and all assessments, rather than the ILF.

If you live in Scotland

If you were on the old ILF scheme, you can get help from a new Scottish Independent Living Fund from ILF Scotland. For more information see http://ilf.scot/

The ILF Scotland Transition Fund provides money, for up to one year, to support young people living with disabilities, as defined in the Equality Act 2010, to improve their lives.

The Transition Fund is to help disabled young people between the ages of 16 and 21, who are leaving school or children’s services, to be more independent and to continue spending time with other people.

If you live in Wales

If you were on the old ILF scheme, the Welsh Independent Living Grant replaced this, as a temporary measure

The Welsh Independent Living Grant will continue during 2018/2019 but, during this period, local councils will meet with the people receiving them to discuss the replacement support they need.

By 31 March 2019, your local authority will be responsible for your care provision and all assessments and Welsh Independent Living Grant payments will cease.

If you live in Northern Ireland

If you were on the old ILF scheme, you can get help under a new replacement Independent Living Fund administered through ILF Scotland. For more information on this see www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/independent-living-fund and http://ilf.scot/
