Into Apprenticeships

Into Apprenticeships deals with common questions such as how to find an apprenticeship, whether the training will be accessible and what support is available in the workplace.

Into Apprenticeships is a guide for disabled people, parents and key advisers about applying for apprenticeships in England

It sits alongside our well-known publication Into Higher Education, which encourages people with a disability, health condition or learning difficulty to go to university.

Although successive governments have been investing in skills development, the proportion of disabled apprentices actually fell between 2006 and 2010 (from 11% to 8%). Changes in the delivery of careers advice also mean that up-to-date resources to support disabled people’s decision-making about options after leaving school are in short supply.

Into Apprenticeships deals with common questions such as how to find an apprenticeship, whether the training will be accessible and what support is available in the workplace. There are several inspiring stories written by disabled apprentices about their own experiences and the challenges they have faced.

The guide also contains a useful resources section listing further websites, publications and organisations which can help.

Generous sponsorship from Barclays means we will be distributing the guide free to every secondary school in England. Hard copies of the guide are available to buy.

Alternatively you can download the guide in word or pdf format for free.

Please allow 10 working days for delivery. Everything is posted 2nd Class by Royal Mail. For orders of five or more copies of a Disability Rights UK product or publication, please email: steve.newsham@disabilityrightsuk.org
