The DWP is pressuring vulnerable and disabled people into accepting unrecorded telephone benefits ‘deals’, the Guardian reports.
People who are waiting on the outcome of appeals, which could see them receive thousands of pounds more a year, are being offered lesser sums if they can decide to accept a lesser offer, in some cases, within minutes.
Frances Ryan reports that major charities including Scope have been told of individuals who have had such calls and been told that offers will be withdrawn if they do not make a snap decision.

DRUK Head of Policy Fazilet Hadi said: “If this is the case, this is an egregious abuse of power. The DWP needs to stop undermining the legitimate need of disabled people to receive the benefits to which they are entitled to live independent lives. There is no dignity nor real term saving in such actions.”
