I Can Make It builds on existing progress this week.

On Wednesday 4th October our Research and Engagement Officer, Anna Denham, and our Policy and Development Manager, Philip Connolly, met with Tony Meggs, Chief Executive of the Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA), and Hala Audi, IPA’s Director for Strategy and Policy. This meeting was to explain I Can Make It to the IPA and ask them to help us create new job opportunities for people with disabilities. something that could be achieved through the governments spending on major infrastructure projects which is currently over £450 billion. As a result, we’ve developed further contacts with a group of departments within the government that procure large projects.

We’d also like to remind you that Bethany Young our Champion for Hertfordshire will be appearing with Anna Denham at the East of England Local Government Association Procurement and Commissioning Master Class next week where they’ll be talking about our partnership with Hertfordshire County Council.

And one more thing: we’re pleased to see that a special edition of Construction News covering disability and construction will be out next week. So, do keep an eye out for it. It’s encouraging to see trade magazines showing people with disabilities working in places that they’re not expected, and that the industry is thinking about how they can employ more disabled people.

Hannah Ross, Champion for I Can Make It in Liverpool and Manchester, at her graduation.

Finally, we’d like to congratulate Hannah Ross, our Champion in Liverpool and Manchester, on graduating from Wadham College, Oxford University with a BA Honours Degree in French.  Hannah, very well done, we wish you continued success for the future!
