Disability and Carers Benefit - February 2020

This course looks at the main disability benefits that are claimed in respect of adults and children affected by a health problem or a disability. It also considers the main benefits issues which typically affect carers.

By the end of the course participants will:

  • Understand the different types of health and disability related benefits which can be claimed in respect of adults and children;
  • Know which benefit to claim and when;
  • Have gained an understanding of the assessment criteria used within Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment and Attendance Allowance;
  • Be able to successfully facilitate claims on behalf of people affected by a disability and/or their carer;
  • Know how to tackle application forms effectively;
  • Be able to maximise income for people affected by a health problem/disability and their carers;
  • Be able to give basic advice on the process of mandatory reconsideration and appeal;

The course is suitable for people are new to benefits but who support and advise people with long term health conditions and disabilities and their carers.

It has been recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority as equivalent to 5.5 hours CPD for solicitors.
