Commenting on the Budget, Liz Sayce, chief executive of Disability Rights UK said:

“We welcome any initiative which focusses on peer to peer support in employment, instead of the failing work programmes.

But this is against a backdrop of recent announcements which mean less support for those claiming employment and support allowance, and less independence for those claiming personal independence payments.

We need more to help disabled people to get and keep jobs, as well as improvements to support disabled people in their day to day lives.

Instead, we get a warning that there are more cuts to come. That’s likely to make it harder for disabled people to work, take part in family life and take part in the communities they live in.”
