A recent freedom of information request shows that a higher proportion of  Employment and Support Allowance  (ESA) claimants are called back for a repeat work capability assessment (WCA) within 6 months.

The freedom of information request asked for the proportions of people who, when assessed under WCA, are held to have a prognosis of either 6, 12, 18 months, 2 years or "in the longer term.

The reply showed the 'Number and proportion of people who have had an initial or repeat Work Capability Assessment (WCA) by prognosis' as at May 2013. The figures were for ESA new and repeat claims, not Incapacity Benefit migration cases.

According to Atos 51.8% of new ESA claimants were called back for a repeat WCA after 6 months. After this repeat assessment a further 29.7% were called back 6 months later, giving a combined total of 41.7% for new and repeat assessments called back after 6 months.
